I was lucky enough to be offered a three letter Names in Light which I shall give to my niece what child wouldn't like a light that magically changes colour before your eyes.Here are below are a couple of ( shaky ) videos of the light in action !

The Process

For the three letter light sculpture select any three letters ( or numbers or a combination of the two and have them made into a glorious, beguiling mesmeric light sculpture that will infuse the senses. When illuminated, the lights softly change colour creating an enchanting light show.

These letters are 48mm high x 12mm deep . The whole piece is 80mm high and 160mm wide.

The light runs from USB or via adapter ( supplied free to the UK only )

Thoughts

I think it is a delightful idea and is has so much scope not only for a childs bedroom but pubs,clubs,weddings etc the possibilities are endless. I think I am going to be the best Auntie in the world ( shines halo!)

Grey Conversation ...

The family dinner table the scene of well dinner and startling  intellectual strange conversations. Picture the scene ...

Son "Its my insert day tomorrow "

"Oh I didn't know" I replied ( either School hadn't told me or I had forgot ) and on that subject what can't all schools in the local area have them on the same day?

" Well I am here in the morning  then I have to go work and school so back later after my haircut" I told him in that way you nod your head as you speak making you look loony.

"What you having it cut again" piped up my lumbering bundle of joy.

"Oh mums having her grey coloured " chirped Mr T  he was too far away for me to kick him under the table . I gave him the evil eye though and the death stare....

"What Fifty Shades of Grey " chirped J in all innocence ( as he hasn't the foggiest what the book is about he thinks its about hair colouring!)

"No J that's another Story" I retorted.


I think I am going to punish Mr T for a few days .....

Phobias, fears and foibles ...

My husband told me that J had watched a section of the Matrix in English within  my immediate reaction was was of oh no as The Matrix can be a scary film. The second reaction was should they be showing this is as they  are under age ? ( though it appears they only showed a non scary clip of this film it was in relation to how old tales are replicated in modern films)


Now J has always been for want of a better word sensitive to some aspects of life, its really hard to put my finger on it. But its little like this :

From an early age because of his ear problems he was always sensitive and on occasion quite highly strung as a toddler. There would be many a day where I would have to ring my husband because J was having a melt down. And then there was the countless times at nursery where he refused to go inside whether anything was upsetting him at nursery I didn't know but because of his slack of communication skills he couldn't tell me.

Another problem we used to have was J used to get very angry unless he had something to eat he was mildly sugar low coupled with anaemia.


Then as he got  older and the communication developed the fears started to creep in it started with "Wizard of Oz" and the flying monkeys. I really don't know how to explain it but it as if he doesn't like watching anything with a touch of reality to it. You can imagine the fun and games we have with Doctor Who and films like "Star Dust " will have him climbing up the walls. Though he loved Lord of the Rings and was completely obsessed buy it when he was younger. I think the problem is he struggles with if it can happen in a film it makes me uneasy/worried/scared and if it can't happen he's ok with it.

Going to town can be a challenge teenagers really don't like shopping at the best of times but J likes to plan the journey with great detail and will get edgy if you deviate from this path. We also have the sticking to of certain foods which can be ever so tricky sometimes at meal times you might think he's also burgers and chips this is far from the truth.

With all have our own phobias, fears and foibles ....

And as someone recently said to me "There are too many labels in the world"

Some situations don't always warrant a trip to the doctors if its they get in the ways of life to such a degree that you or those around you should perhaps go to the doctors. For now we are all ticking along fine.

I am loving the card board tiger puppet genius and its an idea I will defiantly be using with reception !

So you see this set is an ideal present, learning experiance that will set you child up for a lifetime of learning and you can tie in some lovely learning craft ideas along the way!

Silly Soup a learning game.

One of the things that you child might do at school is a rhyming game called "Silly Soup" its very simple ad you can play it at home. You just simply have to make some picture cards of a box,fox etc basically words that rhyme.

Rhyming soup

Ask a small group to sit in a circle so they can see a selection of rhyming objects (e.g.

rat, hat, cat) placed on the floor. Use a bowl and spoon as props to act out the song.

Invite the children, in turn, to choose an object to put into the soup and place it in the

bowl. After each turn, stir the soup and sing the following song to recite the growing list of

things that end up in the soup.

Sing the first part of the song to the tune of ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’:

I’m making lots of silly soup

I’m making soup that’s silly

I’m going to cook it in the fridge

To make it nice and chilly

In goes… a fox… a box… some socks…

Silly soup

Provide the children with a selection of items with names that begin with the same sound.

Show them how you can make some ‘silly soup’ by putting ‘ingredients’ (e.g. a banana,

bumble bee and bug) into a pan in the role-play area.

Allow the children to play and concoct their own recipes. Play alongside them without

influencing their choices. Commentate and congratulate the children on their silly recipes.

Recite each child’s list of chosen ingredients. Make the pattern clear by emphasising the

initial sound. By observing mouth movements draw the children’s attention to the way we

start each word and form sounds.
