Familarity in Reception

Soon in Reception everything will hopefully become familiar to your child though they will have to be reminded on how to do things every so often as even us adults forget things.

Having a child can be a confusing time for a parent !.

So basically within the England (UK) they are under EYFS I know that the world is drowning in acronyms but you will soon get your head round them hopefully.

What does the Early Years Foundation Stage do?

Basically:

  • Your children learn through play indoor and outdoor.

  • The education providers work closely with parents
  • you are kept up to date on your child’s progress
  • The welfare, learning and all-round development of children with different backgrounds and levels of ability, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Your school obviously will have provided you with an information pack prior to starting reception where probably your teachers and helpers pictures will be in the booklets. This is very useful and reassuring to both the parent as child because as soon as they reach school they will see a familiar face and this will help ease them into their school routine.

As a parent you can help settle your child into
school by going over what will happen in a basic school day. Even though you will have a booklet from school what will happen there is no harm as a parent making a little scrap book about what will happen in their school day. Reassurance and guidance is key to them settling in and the more familiar they can become with their surrounding the better. And familiarity will the routine with help them get on and lean as they will have less to worry about.

Have a treat!

And do make sure you treat them once in a while after a long day at school!.

Ryvita Sun, Sea , Sand And Crunch review.

I know its September but I am still clinging onto summer by my finger nails there's no reason why it can't be summer time all year long really.

Ryvita has joined forces with talented mark sargeant , owner of celebrated Rocksalt in Folkstone, to create a series of fresh and Zingy toppings, inspired by the British Summertime, to perfectly accompany your favourite Yyvita Crispbread.

For a light lunch on a hot summer's day, why not treat yourself to subtly spiced crayfish tales and peppery watercress on tops the new Ryvira Hint of Chillicrispbread. Ideally partnered with a cold crisp glass of Pinot Grgio for a long leisurely lunch. Or, as a temptingly tasty canape for an outside, candle lit soiree, why not serve succulent salt beef, peppery water cress and a dollop of dill pickle on Ryvita Dark crispbread.

A wonderful base for seasonal ingredients and great to share with family and friends. Ryvita is a must-have for summer get- togethers. With a wide selection of differant variants including Ryvita Dark Rye Crispbread and new Ryvita Hint of Chilli crispbread, there is something available for everyone.

So dispels all your thoughts of Ryvita as something that is boring as it most defiantly is not !

So take your Ryvita from the ordinary to the  extraordinary !!

A Ryvita deserves more than chocolate spread and strawberries on it.

Back to School reading tips

Back to School Reading tips.

Getting your child basically to read can can be like banging your head against a brick wall. Here are some simple tips that may help in that situation.

1. Find a quiet spot to read with them, squeeze in to a little play tent with them, make it an adventure. No distractions ! Ten - fifteen minutes is long enough. So if you want to start to read them the entire book of ' The Hobbit' is going to have to wait.

2. If your child doesn't pronounce the word correctly- first allow them to correct themselves. Encourage them to sound out the  word using the Alphabet sound. This is basically Phonics but don't get hung up on this it will come in time. A good place to find the frequency word is here click on Literacy then go to phonics . Go right to the bottom and you will find 100 frequency words.

3. If you are struggling at first choose a book without words. It doesn't matter that it doesn't have words, the things is to get them used to looking at a book reading and being comfortable.  This encourages them to talk about what they see and helps the with their comprehension and understanding of the book. Also if they say an word wrong don't say its wrong simply  ask them to read that sentence back asking them if that sentence makes sense with that word in it.

4. Tailor the book to their interests. For boys it might me snot, dirt, cars, bottom noises ()! dinosaurs, football etc. Books like  harry and his Bucket full of dinosaurs are lovely. For the girls its probably going to be cats , horses and ponies, fairies, ballet,or princesses. Of course this is a bit stereotyped and each child will  have other interests !

5. Hug your child while they  are reading , it is a wonderful thing it makes you feel loved and instill your child with pride and confidence,. one of those many quality you need for reading.

6. Why not read out side outdoor? learning is very important , why not make a story shoe box up; recreating a scene form a book you are reading perhaps change the story around a little, you could invent a different ending. Of you could even create a story setting in a tray or in your sandpit ? I am sure there is a product you can buy to encourage this , I will try and find it for you.

7. Try and remember what you enjoy reading as a child and go re visit those stories.

8. If you have any problems always go and see the teacher its what they are there for, and they are always happy you help and suggest things for you.

9. Don't fret just keep trying if they don't want to read today , go back to  it another day.

10 .  Have fun they are only young once !.

Starting Reception: Rules

Your child is bound to be nervous starting Reception and may experience a few teething problems .

But with a few simple rules their transition can be helped and soon they will be running into the classroom on their own. Rules are very, very  very important in a Reception childs life, the whole of a Reception child day is centred on structure even if they don't know it themselves. So make sure you find out what your child's class rules are ,perhaps you have your own rules at home, and if so then their transition may be all the smoother. They they might experience with their new class teacher are:

1. Lips closed ( speaks for itself really ).

2. Carpet is thinking time ( this instills when they are on the carpet that they are quiet and wait for the teacher and perhaps think about a question that they have been asked)

3. Listen ( the teacher may explain that they have one pair of ears so can only listen to one child at a time! )

4. Sit on the carpet quietly.

5. Walk in the classroom.

Your child's teacher will not bombard your child with rules but will built them up slowly. There will be constant rearming of the rules and reminding. I hope that your child loves their time at school. Do let me know who they get on. As I have a reception class this year myself! so its a new beginning and rules for myself as well.

I met half of my reception class today and they are so lovely I shall be charting what I learn as I go , I do hope you will follow me and hopefully pick up so tips or if you want as some questions. I going to love being a Teaching assistant in this class.
